Like your carpeting, area rugs need to be cleaned, too. Many people with homes and office in the Minneapolis area use these rugs for functional reasons as well as the welcome addition they can be for the over all look of any room.

One of the most popular reasons for the use of an area rug is to lessen the amount of wear and tear the main carpet or flooring receives. Heavy traffic and back and forth use can destroy your floors and carpet and by letting these rugs absorb the majority of the mess you will do yourself and your carpeting a great service.

Inclement weather, which many a resident in Minneapolis is aware of, will cause carpeting and flooring to stain and get dirty quickly and area rugs are great for this, as well at all access points into a home or office and around garages.

Finer area rugs are used frequently throughout the Twin Cities and accentuate any area, but they, too, are subject to having dirt, dust and wear and tear and attention must be paid to them or the health of these beautiful additions will start to deteriorate.

When it is time to clean your area rugs there are many ways to do it yourself as well as carpet cleaning companies that have years of experience in working with these types of carpets.

Before you attempt to have your area rugs cleaned make sure read the manufacturers recommended cleaning instructions as even basic cleaning or washing can affect their general appearance.

To start, you will want to vacuum both sides of it, or them, and shake it outside to get rid of any leftover dust and debris. Some rugs have rubber backing so you can obviously disregard that side and move on. If you have rugs with fringe on them do not use your regular vacuum, use attachments that will allow you to vacuum and not suck up any of the strands. If the area rug is small you will not want to try and go back and forth over it as it will slide. Step on one end and clean the other, and then continue the same way on the other side.

After you have done this you will want to take the rugs that can be out in a washing machine in to the machine and set the temperature for cold. Many rugs have colors and intricate designs and if you want all of these to stay vibrant make sure that your washing machine is set to cold.

After the rugs have been through the washing cycle take them out and shake them again, vigorously. If you choose to, and the weather permits, you can let the rugs air dry outside and this will take away any worry of the rug shrinking or becoming disfigured.

When using a dryer set it to cool or air dry and keep alert to not leave it in too long. Do not use regular drying settings.
